Ianus B Cluster (2)

Inhabited Systems

Jutarna
Habitability 5 - Population 7 - Authority 5 - Technology 6
The weather patterns on this watery world are volatile. The most comfortably habitable areas are subject to near constant rains and frequent typhoons. Proximity to, and control of the Bifrons System and the Janus Gate has made Jutarna wealthy, populous, and the dominant political force in the cluster. With the centuries long retraction of the Commonwealth Rahul Turnus I saw an opportunity and unseated the Baron of Jutarna, installing himself as Prince Kabir Turnus I. 7 years ago a succession crisis resulted in the coronation of the child Prince Ayukt Turnus II. Stability was short lived, last year the pirate warlord Yaxell Gemullus defeated the Turnan fleet and took control of Jutarna. Gemullus has been slowly consolidating power both on Jutarna and in the cluster.

Metis
Habitability 3 - Population 1 - Authority 1 - Technology 1
The dense atmosphere and cold temperature of this world make it uncomfortable for human habitation. The several thousand people who live here are happily ruled over by a Gestalt Intelligence know as Metis. While Metis themself has access to high level technology the general population only has use of it on Metis' discretion, outsiders almost never do. Most travelers find Metis entirely unnerving and avoid the place.

Procidens
Habitability 2 - Population 1 - Authority 1 - Technology 1
This pock marked world is constantly being struck by meteor showers making above ground infrastructure a risky and temporary endeavor. The people of Procidens live in underground collectives and subsist off hydroponic/fungal farms and intermittent herding on the surface.

Boreas
Habitability 3 - Population 4 - Authority 1 - Technology 3
A cold world, Boreas is "ruled" by a group of religious zealots known as Libertarians. Their priesthood rejects any responsibility for law or infrastructure beyond what supports the exercise of commerce. Wealth here is extremely stratified and almost everything one does is transactional.

Calanice
Habitability 2 - Population 2 - Authority 2 - Technology 4
Calanice itself is a gas giant but has numerous inhabited satellites both natural and artificial. Historically each moon or orbital station has been operated by a different gas extraction or plastics manufacturing concern. Recently the system has come under control of a Military Junta of nobles and officers supporting the exiled Prince Ayukt Turnus II. The junta largely leaves day to day operations of the satellites alone, but has been making significant appropriations of materiel and wealth.

Satis
Habitability 6 - Population 5 - Authority 6 - Technology 6
Perfectly suited to human habitation, with minor gene manipulation all typical crops and livestock have thrived here without complete disaster for the local ecosystem. Satis has maintained it's government and status as Commonwealth member world, it is currently ruled by Planetary Governor Count Ioanna Curcuas and his elected heir Baron Basil Mesardonites. Satis opposes King Yaxell Gemullus, but has not moved overtly against him, waiting to see the results of diplomatic efforts by Commonwealth member worlds on the other side of the Janus Gate.

Kubele
Habitability 5 - Population 2 - Authority 3 - Technology 4
A green and fruitful world, Kubele yields a surplus of food to the agricultural colonies that dot her surface. Numerous species of dangerous beasts are native to the planet, these and a (now) hostile ancient culture of human inhabitants make further development difficult. There is a thriving business of guided hunts on the world for the rich and foolhardy of the sector.

Mander
Habitability 1 - Population 1 - Authority 5 - Technology 4
A world without atmosphere but rich in minerals and metals, including Unbipentium one of the rarer chemical elements necessary for the manufacture of Gate Cores. By treaty numerous planets and corporations each hold and govern territory on Mander with rights to transport off world unmolested. Until recently safe transport was guaranteed by house Turnus of Jutarna. Since the conquest of Jutarna, King Yaxell Gemullus has left the mining concerns unmolested excepting Jutarna's own, but most of the material is unable to leave the sector with the closing of The Janus Gate. Some brave captains have chanced crossing the Titan's Wheel Nebula.

Bifrons
Habitability 1 - Population 3 - Authority 5 - Technology 4
Despite arid conditions and frequent earthquakes Bifrons hosts millions of people all of whom, directly or indirectly, support The Janus Gate. The Janus Gate is an enormous and ancient apparatus that serves to stabilize a wormhole to the Kalbum Cluster. Between the two points lies the Titan's Wheel Nebula, an area of space eight parsecs across with no known habitable planets that makes Gatespace travel difficult and dangerous. For centuries Bifrons and The Janus Gate have been subsidiary to Jutarna. Even when Prince Kabir Turnus declared independence from The Commonwealth trade and people flowed through the Bifrons system. However, the newly crowned King Yaxell Gemullus has closed the gate. He demands recognition of his legitimacy, tribute, and material support against the remaining forces of House Turnus. Thus far Commonwealth and other trade partners on the other side have been unwilling to meet his demands...
